National Lottery update: Wembley project commits to FSC

Following on from some very positive discussion at a meeting with construction company Multiplex, the project directors for the New Wembley Stadium site have sent a message of good will by erecting a 50 foot FSC Christmas tree at the iconic Wembley Stadium - signalling their commitment to sourcing timber from legal and sustainable sources.

The Wembley Stadium project was one of ten that are being monitored as part of our National Lottery work, with the intention to expose examples of where timber from illegal and destructive logging is being used. However, the project has a clear specification to source from FSC certified forests, currently the most rigourous and credible way to ensure that timber has come from well-managed sources, and are currently working with Greenpeace to implement guidelines to ensure that the timber used on the project has not come from ancient forest destruction.
