The National Assembly notes the recent Concordat between the Health and Safety Executive and the National Assembly for Wales recognising that the Assembly has an interest in issues of nuclear safety because of the impact a nuclear accident could have on the environment.
The Assembly also notes that Wylfa nuclear power station is currently closed following the discovery of defects in welds in the reactor pressure vessel.
The Assembly calls on the Energy Minister to question the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate about the safety implications of reopening Wylfa, and ensure that information relating to all aspects of nuclear safety in Wales is made public.
Amendment added to above opinion:
Register its view that no new nuclear power stations should be commissioned in the UK but that it is appropriate for existing nuclear power stations to continue to generate electricity as long as this can be shown to be safe.

The following list of AM's marked with an asterix * have already voiced their support for this Statement of Opinion. If your AM hasn't supported the Statement, click on their names to email them direct and ask why not!
A Statement of Opinion is a way for Assembly Members to register their concern about issues. Once it has been raised by one or more Assembly Members, other AMs can subscribe to it to show their agreement with its aims. The more AMs who subscribe, the more political weight the Statement of Opinion carries in the National Assembly for Wales. It is also a good indication of whether or not an individual AM is aware of, and cares about, different issues.
We are hoping that the Statement of Opinion will show the Minister for the Environment, Sue Essex, that Wylfa and nuclear safety is an important issue, and that she should take action to ensure that information on nuclear safety is made public.
