9.35am Tuesday -still cold. Still anchored off Barrow. The weather has improved though. Although its still windy the rain has gone and the sky has brightened considerably. The improvement has been great enough for us to get the camping stove out and practice our culinary skills.

Nothing too challenging to begin with. Stan and Kevin are down there now making tea and coffee but Im sure well be up to dried pasta meals and cup-a-soup in no time if the weather holds.

There is a fully fitted, catering size kitchen on here but no gas or electric obviously. Like all of the facilities its so near, yet so far. Imagine a Holiday Inn/Travel Lodge with most of the furnishings, accessories and services missing. Double bedrooms with en suite but no light, heating, hot water or bedding. A control centre with no computers, toilets with no plumbing.

The barge has swung around a lot at anchor giving us the odd problem with the satphone antenna but also, as of this morning, giving us a view of the shoreline. Up until now all wed been able to see was ocean (fog permitting) and we could have been anywhere. It was comforting to see lights blinking from the shore at dawn and hear the bustle of the town waking. Less comforting to know that that is where the arrest party will probably depart from, but at least from this position we can watch them coming.

PS My son called. He is rehearsing with his band in our house. I may never be able to go home and face the neighbours!
