St Kilda: no new oil

St Kilda: no new oil

We can't burn more than 5% of the world's oil coal and gas resources without causing dangerous levels of climate change. Yet oil companies continue to explore for new oil, adding to the stockpile that can't be used safely. Yet the search for new oil is taking oil companies into fragile wilderness areas including the Atlantic Frontier and Alaska. The daily activities of the oil industry result in disturbance and deliberate oil pollution on top of which accidental spills are inevitable.

Furthermore, much of this exploration contravenes existing legislation designed to protect wildlife.

This illegal exploration merely finds more oil that we cannot afford to burn without causing irreversible damage to the world's climate and its consequences.
