Western Red Cedar BCFew can dispute the damage caused by clearcut logging the world's ancient forests. But what can be done to tackle the problem? Greenpeace believes that individuals and corporate consumers have the right and responsibility to buy wood and wood-based products that do not contribute to the environmental and social degradation of the world's ancient forests.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo identifies wood products from well-managed forests that have been independently inspected and evaluated according to environmental, social and economic principles. More than 20,000 FSC certified forest products are available in the global marketplace.

What you can do:

  • Don't buy conservatories or summerhouses that use western red cedar supplied by Interfor
  • If you see Canadian western red cedar conservatories or summerhouses for sale, write to the store asking them if the western red cedar comes from Interfor
  • Ask retailers if they stock FSC endorsed conservatories or summerhouses and if not why not? Most do not stock it - so put some pressure on them!
