GM animal feeds: Greenpeace explains next step in campaign against GM foods

Solution - go organic

In the wake of Marks and Spencer's announcement that it is to start removing genetically modified soya and maize from animal feed, Greenpeace's food specialist Stokely Webster explains the significance of this latest development.

Greenpeace is launching a campaign on GM [Genetically Manipulated] animal feed. Through consumer pressure GM soya and maize have been phased out of much of the food we eat directly but it still forms up to 30% of farm animal feed. Greenpeace is negotiating with international feed suppliers and supermarkets to ensure supplies of non-GM animal feed.

While the [UK] Government ignores the lessons of BSE, consumers know that there is a direct link between what we feed our animals and our own health. The use of GM in food is unnecessary and it should be banned now.
