Stop the war march - an estimated 2 million people take part

The majority of Britons do not support a war against Iraq, yet the Prime Minister, despite derision in his own party, still does.

On Monday, 10th March, a Virtual March on London will take place. We're encouraging everyone who believes a peaceful solution is possible to join in and jam 10 Downing Street.

Last week in the US, a similar Virtual March on Washington, saw the switchboards almost reach meltdown, as an estimated 1 million people called in.

To commit to the UK event, simply take a few minutes to call, fax and/or email your Member of Parliament and Number 10 Downing Street to personally register your opposition to war.

How to make contact

Find out who your MP is on the on the UK Parliament site here, or ring the House of Commons switchboard directly on 0207 219 3000.

To locate a Peer in the House of Lords, ring the switchboard directly on 0207 219 3107.

To contact Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, ring 0207 270 1500 or fax 0207 839 2417.

You may contact Tony Blair on 0207 270 1234 (then press 3) or fax him your message on 020 7925 0918. He does not have an email address.

What to say

Make your opposition to a war against Iraq known, using your own words. If the Government's position is likely to influence your voting patterns in future, let them know.

If you plan to call, jot down a few of the points you would like to make beforehand. Once you get through, take your time and get your points across. Ask the person at the other end of the phone to write down your message and pass it on.

Which way did your MP vote?

If your MP voted against the Government's pro-war motion, call, fax or email him or her on March 10 to congratulate them. If they voted with the Government, ask them to reconsider. Remind them that you do not want the UK to go to war in your name.
