Commenting on the announcement from fracking company Cuadrilla of two new potential fracking sites in Lancashire, Greenpeace UK energy campaigner Lawrence Carter said:

“So far Cuadrilla has been forced to abandon plans to frack at all of the sites they have proposed. With public support flagging and strong opposition mounting across the country, there is no reason it will be any different with the two new locations unveiled today.

“In the area surrounding the proposed Lancashire sites there are already over a hundred people who have joined our legal block to stop fracking companies trespassing under their homes. Sussex residents who are opposing fracking near their properties have already blazed a trail of legal opposition, and communities like those near Preston could follow suit.

“Instead of planning to strip away long-established homeowners’ rights to make way for drillers, the government should take notice of the growing concerns expressed by millions of people, including many Tory voters, and call it a day on this fracking folly.”
