President Bush today said the solution to climate change lies in 'the power of human ingenuity.'
He claimed 'emerging technologies such as hydrogen powered vehicles, electricity from renewable energy sources and clean coal technology will encourage economic growth that is environmentally responsible.'
In response Greenpeace Executive Director Stephen Tindale said:
"Bush proposes solutions to a problem he is yet to accept even exists, while his ideological blinkers prevent him seeing beyond market forces to deliver those solutions. He's right that technology can do an enormous amount to tackle climate change, but only when he demands mandatory emissions cuts will American industry deliver the technological breakthroughs we need. At the very least he should have used the speech to announce his administration accepts climate change is happening and is caused by burning fossil fuels."
