Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior will be docking in Cardiff on Sunday 28 September 2003 and offering all visitors an opportunity to tour the environmental icon, meet the crew, speak to campaigners and learn about the threat of global warming.

The arrival of the 55-metre vessel, famous for her environmental campaigns around the world, will represent a massive show of support for the proposed wind farm three miles off the coast of south Wales, at Scarweather Sands. The wind farm will provide clean, green, renewable energy for up to 80,000 homes.

Visitors will be offered a guided tour of the ship and the chance to learn more about the wind farm's numerous benefits. Not only could the wind farm boost the local tourist industry , but, by producing clean energy, it will also help to reduce the harmful effects of global warming.

Throughout the open day, Greenpeace volunteers will be asking those in favour of the wind farm to write letters of support to the Welsh Assembly, ahead of a public inquiry in November. Visitors will also be able to see accurate and independent photomontages of how the development will look from the shore.

The Rainbow Warrior will be in Roath Basin, Cardiff Docks, between 11am and 5pm, with the last tour starting at 4.30pm. The ship will be moored close to the Welsh Assembly building, where the future of the wind farm will be decided following a public inquiry in November.

Greenpeace Campaigner Natasha Richards said: "This is a great chance for everyone to come and tour a real high-seas heroine. We're expecting hundreds of people to have a look around the Rainbow Warrior"

"And it's also a way for everyone to learn more about the massive opportunity there is for offshore wind power off the Welsh coast, and the very real benefits it offers, both locally and globally."

Notes for Editors:

As a working boat, the Rainbow Warrior has some steep steps and narrow passage ways - so pushchairs, wheelchairs and dogs will not be allowed on board. Greenpeace apologises that people of limited mobility may not be able to complete a full tour, although they can of course still see the ship and talk to the crew. Please note that space is limited, and there may be queues to get on board.
