Summary
The UK Government offered nuclear power company British Energy (BE) up to £3.3 billion in taxpayers' money under a "secret" restructuring plan. In July 2003, the European Commission announced it would conduct a formal investigation into the legality of this restructuring package.

Greenpeace believes that instead of pouring money into a privately owned nuclear company, the Government should allow BE to go into administration and organise an orderly shut down of its loss making plants.
