Greenpeace - campaigning to protect whales

Well the day started with our barrister reading out a summary of Greenpeace's evidence as to why we think the Government are acting illegally by not applying European environmental legislation to oil licensing.

Nigel Pleming QC raised a number of key issues one of which was that the Government have changed their line on the damage that oil licensing could cause to whales and dolphins. It basically means that they now do acknowledge that oil and gas activities are likely to cause harm to whales and dolphins.

The afternoon is being occupied by our barrister setting out why Greenpeace believes that the European Habitats Directive should apply to all of the waters over which the UK has jurisdiction. That is the 200 miles.

That's the argument that he's laying out before the judge so the judge can fully understand the issues and make a decision.
