A video of life on the Esperanza

We finally managed to upload the video of the crew that our videographer Stephen Nugent made. The internet connection via satellite is pretty terrible up here as we are right on the edge of the northern range for the satellite that normally gives us internet 24/7. I'm so glad you are now able to see it. The video itself took about four days to make, several bars of chocolate in bribes to get people talking, Stephen on camera and me on sound - fumbling around all over the ship - getting in everyone's way and struggling with the pitching and rolling at sea.

At first Stephen found it difficult to video with the ship moving so much but he cleverly turned this challenge into a subtle theme. You might even get the sense that you're sailing with us. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we struggled to put it together and get it online. For me - working with Stephen was a complete joy as he has a great sense of humour and is an amazingly talented cameraman.  The hard part was getting crew to stop what they were doing and give us some of their time - and then trying to send the completed video from the ship to shore. We have our very patient radio operator, Steven, to thank for that!

Life on board now is pretty intense. And we're forming bonds in a matter of days - that normally take years to solidify. I'm hoping that I will have gained some long lasting friends after this voyage. Perhaps this is where the word "friend-ship" came from. After working on this video with Stephen I am now the proud director of The Stephen Nugent Fan Club on Facebook!
