Glastonbury 2014: the field comes together

The thing about being a parent of young children is that going away can be such a wrench. They grow up so fast, that even in a couple of days mean you could miss a key moment in their life. And so it was with our growing field at Glastonbury. I’d been on site about a week, but had some work to do in the office, so I took the opportunity for a short break (and to get some much needed laundry done).

When I left, we were a small close knit group of about 40 crew pulling together the foundations of what promised to be a great field. I returned to find things had changed almost beyond recognition.

When I left this is what the field looked like, still largely green.

But since then, the features have really been coming together. The dome went up in less than two days, and will feature various shows and immersive visual experiences during the day. And at night it is a backdrop for projections that will illuminate the field.

The cafe is coming along nicely too. During the festival we will be serving the most delicious cakes and the best coffee on site.

Never mind Dolly Parton - the Greenpeace showers are the not-to-be-missed feature this year (as they are every year).

The roof is up and work has begun on the motifs for the members Bar. Greenpeace members will be able to get a night time drink and see some exclusive shows. If you are a member come along to the field during the day to get your access wristband. If you aren't a member yet don't panic we will be able to fix that too.

Overseeing it all and taking a well earned break from her world tour is Aurora - the world's largest polar bear puppet - reminding us all why we are here.

So thanks to all the hard work of our amazing crew...

After only two days away the field looks like this...

Our little field is growing up fast, but then it needs to. In less than a week’s time Glastonbury will be playing host to over 150,000 festival goers. It needs to be ready to amaze, entertain and above all to educate them. I know everything will be ready and above all I know our baby will make us proud.
