However, despite Parliamentary debates, public campaigns, media scrutiny and public inquiries, there has been little opportunity for many of those interested in the debate to enter into dialogue with each other. Essentially, this means that the implications of ending reprocessing have never been considered publicly in their entirety.

We have asked some well known commentators on BNFL and their activities to contribute a short paper to help frame a discussion hosted here on Greenpeace 'Digital.

We hope that this discussion forum will go some way to starting the debate. The central questions are:

  • why would you end reprocessing
  • what would be the best way of going about it
  • and what would the impacts be

In addition to those whose papers appear on this site, we also asked other players in the debate to submit papers - notably British Energy, BNFL's largest customer, and the Sellafield Unions. British Energy stated that it did not wish to submit its views on reprocessing. However, it's worth noting their recent statement that "
