Greenpeace today launched a major new global campaign targeting the world’s biggest toy company [1], LEGO. They’ll be mobilising more than 5 million online Arctic supporters and thousands of activists to take creative action in six continents as part of the campaign [2]. There have already been high-profile protests just this morning at LEGOLAND in the UK.

In a new report [3], released today, Greenpeace accuse LEGO of putting sales above its commitment to the environment and children’s futures.

A group of 80 activists supported by the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior are attempting to stop Gazprom’s oil tanker Mikhail Ulyanov from delivering the first ever oil from icy Arctic waters. This is the same oil 28 Greenpeace activists and two journalists were imprisoned in Russia for protesting against last year. Six were British. They are calling for a ban on offshore oil drilling in the Arctic and an urgent switch to new sources of energy.

Australian bush fires, NSW 2013

Sydney Harbour Bridge was barely visible through the smoke and amber coloured sky. Men covered in protective clothing sprayed water at the blazing bush. A row of four ducks swiftly waddled their way out of danger.

That was the first time I had seen my new home, Sydney, for over two months. I couldn’t smell or feel the burning heat from the fires but I witnessed the fires and their destructive paths on the TV, the TV inside my Russian prison cell.
