This time last year I was standing in a vast pool of oily water. It used to be a fish pond for local villagers, but now everywhere was coated with oil and the stench of petroleum was overpowering. A light rain was falling.

After two weeks of frantic film making, the curtain has fallen on the Greenpeace film competition.

I spent a few very pleasant hours yesterday watching all the entries – in many cases, over and over again. I’m amazed by how much hard work has gone into them – and I think you will be too when you see the results.

Yesterday brought the news that yet another Cairn well off Greenland - the sixth so far - has come up dry. The Delta-1 well will be plugged and abandoned and Cairn now has to pin its hopes for this year's drilling season on two remaining wells.
