The UN’s Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar concludes “that gross human rights violations and serious violations of international humanitarian law have been committed since 2011 and that many of these violations undoubtedly amount to the gravest crimes under international law”.

Its detailed findings, released today, end by calling for the Burmese government to replace the military leadership, remove it from political life, stop the abuses, and bring their perpetrators to justice. The UN Security Council should refer Burma to the International Criminal Court, adopt targeted individual sanctions and impose an arms embargo.
