October 2, 2021—In response to recent demand by the Uganda government to wave visa entry requirements for South Sudanese nationals with strings attached, South Sudan’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mayiik Ayik Deng has yesterday on 2nd of October 2021 welcomed the decision and pledged to reciprocate it.
This comes a week after the government of the Republic of Uganda announced that it waived the requirements of visa entry for South Sudanese citizens traveling to Uganda provided that such citizens have a valid passport and South Sudan government would do the same to Ugandans nationals.
In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, the South Sudan’s ministry of Foreign Affairs says it welcomes the decision and promised to reciprocate it.
” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA /IC) of the Republic of South Sudan welcomes the decision of the government of the sisterly Republic of Uganda to waive visa entry requirements for the citizens of the Republic of South Sudan with effect from 1st of October “, the statement reads.
In her part, the government of South Sudan has ordered the Ministry of Interior through its Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration to waive visa entry requirements for citizens of Uganda holding valid Passports.
“.. In the principle of reciprocity, the government of the Republic of South Sudan today has directed the Ministry of Interior through its Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration to waive visa entry requirements for Ugandan citizens holding valid Passports issued by the government of the Republic of Uganda with effect from 4th of October, 2021 “, the statement of South Sudan’s ministry added.
According to the statement, all entry and exit points including missions and embassies abroad are directed to comply with the new directive.
In a press release, J1 clarifies that the government of South Sudan had to make such a decision to strengthen its existing bilateral ties between South Sudan and Uganda.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan hails this move as a significant booster to the already existing stronger bilateral relations with the Republic of Uganda”, the statement further stressed.
