Afrobeat superstar Wizkid has won the inaugural ‘Favourite Afrobeats Artist’ at the 2022 American Music Award.

The Grammy winner bagged the award at the 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) held at the Microsoft Theater on November 20, in Los Angeles, California.

The ‘Bad To Me’ crooner beat Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy, and Tems to clinch the prestigious award, while also clinching the Favourite R&B award with his song ‘Essence’ featuring Tems.

Meanwhile, Tems also clinched an award for her role in Future and Drake’s ‘Wait For U’ track after the song won the Favorite Hip Hop Song category.

The award for the ‘Favorite Afrobeat Artist’ was recently introduced this year by the organisers to highlight the global impact of Afrobeats on the international music scene.
