A magistrates’ court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Friday remanded a 25-year-old man, Kola Adebisi, for allegedly beating a woman to death.

The police charged Mr Adebisi with assault and homicide.

Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo did not take Mr Adebisi’s plea on grounds that his court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case.

She, therefore, ordered that he should be remanded in the Ile-Ife corrections centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until June 21 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that Mr Adebusi committed the offence on April 15, 2024, at about 4:00 p.m. in the Ita-Apata area of Ile-Ife.

Mr Osanyintuyi said Mr Adebusi beat Grace Omisakin to death.

He said the offence is punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Mr Adebusu was represented in court by his counsel, Micheal Babatunde.
