67 drug traffickers convicted in Edo; 106 cases pending: NDLEA

According to NDLEA, 106 cases are pending in court.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it secured the conviction of 67 drug traffickers in Edo in 2023.

NDLEA sector commander in Edo, Buba Wakawa, said Sunday in Benin that the convicts were among the suspects arrested last year.

According to him, out of the 173 suspects arrested and charged to court, 67 were convicted and sentenced.

Mr Wakawa said 106 cases were pending in court.

He also disclosed thag 414 drug addicts were nabbed, counselled and released by NDLEA’s drug reduction unit.

While appealing to t
Edo residents to support the agency with useful information to fight illicit drugs, the NDLEA commander called on communities to stop providing land to cultivate illicit drugs like cannabis.
