The school children abducted by bandits in Ekiti last week Monday have been released, Peoples Gazette can report.

The children, who are pupils of The Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure-Ekiti, regained freedom in the early hours of Sunday.

The Gazette learnt that they were set free alongside their school teachers while the driver conveying them was killed by the kidnappers.

“Yes, they (school children) regained freedom around 2 am today. Their teachers too were released. I could count eight of them while being led out by security agents. But sadly, I learnt that their driver was killed by the kidnappers,” a competent source told our reporter.

They were released seven days after being in captivity with their captors.

Sunday Abutu, police spokesman in Ekiti, could not be immediately reached for comment.

It was not immediately clear if any ransom was paid for the release of the school pupils and their teachers.

The Gazette recalls that the abductors had demanded N100 million for the release of the victims.
