The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had distributed necessary materials for Saturday’s rerun elections in two federal constituencies in Anambra.

The election will hold in Nnewi North and Orumba North local government areas of Anambra.

The distribution of sensitive materials to the affected council areas took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Awka office and was supervised by the Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Elizabeth Agwu.

Ms Agwu told journalists that sensitive materials like result sheets of all types and ballot papers were received and distributed for onward movement to the two council areas.

She disclosed that the BVAS machines and other items had been handed over to electoral officers.

Ms Agwu said they completed 50 per cent of the work and were ready for the election on Saturday.

She called on the ad hoc staff to be proactive to ensure a smooth election process, as no excuses would be entertained.

Ms Agwu said there would be no movement in areas of the elections between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. when voting would end.

“INEC assures all eligible voters of their safety and urges all credible voters to come out to vote for the candidates of their choice without fear of harassment because there are enough security personnel.

“Every person on the queue will vote before they close, and voters are encouraged to come out en masse to exercise their civic duty,” she said.

Ms Agwu warned politicians not to flout any law or electoral guideline as enough security personnel had been deployed to provide safety at all the polling units.

The rerun is in compliance with a court order which cancelled elections in the 21 polling units in the two local government areas.
