The Committee of Diaspora Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has advised the party’s leadership to foster unity among members and learn from its mistakes at Edo’s just concluded governorship primary.

The committee gave the advice in a statement jointly signed by Adesegun Labinjo and Bola Babarinde, its chairman and general Secretary, respectively, on Wednesday.

“Edo state is open to any serious party to clinch victory in the next gubernatorial election in the state. The All Progressives Congress seems to be carried away by an erroneous impression that it is business as usual, where imposition is the order of the day and with no repercussions.

“The shambolic primaries conducted in Edo state and its aftermath, even after the second primary, should be a lesson to the leadership of the party,” it stated.

The committee called on President Bola Tinubu to “save the party from collapse over imposition and undue interference in its activities by the leadership of the party.”

The committee noted that members of the party in the diaspora were monitoring events in Nigeria and would equally not tolerate any imposition and undue interference in its chapters.

It said many of the APC in the diaspora chapter had conducted their congresses, which were monitored and witnessed by the administration of the immediate past chairman of the party, Adamu Abdullahi.

“But unfortunately, the current national secretariat seems to be setting a bad precedent of cancelling everything done by the previous administration, no matter how laudable they are.

“We in the diaspora will resist any actions that will bring disrepute to our party and its image due to the narrow-minded actions of some individuals currently holding positions at the party secretariat.

“Sometimes we wonder if these people are truly working in the best interests of our party or with a hidden agenda to destroy a party that we all suffered to build to this level,” the committee said.

According to the committee, the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, may not be totally aware of the shenanigans of some of the NWC members, who are bent on undermining him and ensuring the failure of his tenure.

“We hereby call on the leader, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to come and rescue the party from arrogant individuals controlling the affairs of our party presently.

“We also call on the national chairman of the party to please pay more attention to the happenings in the diaspora chapters before it is too late,” it said.

The committee said the planned APC UK Congress would determine how far APC will survive in the diaspora.

According to the committee, this is because some people at the party’s secretariat are bent on imposing their interests on the will of party members in diaspora chapters.
