David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, has claimed that he has never campaigned for any politician nor speak on behalf of anyone despite frequent consultations.

“I have never campaigned for anybody or spoken on anybody’s behalf and I will not do that till I go to heaven. There is no party in this country that didn’t come to me for prayers and advice,” Mr Oyedepo said on Sunday during a service at his Church headquarters in the Ota area of Ogun.

Mr Oyedepo’s comment came after Peoples Gazette exclusively published a leaked audio between him and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi.

In the now viral audio, Mr Obi was heard appealing to the influential cleric to help him reach the Christian community in his native Kwara and other North-states.

“This is a religious war”, the LP candidate said in an excerpt of the phone conversation.

Speaking further on Sunday, Mr Oyedepo revealed that many politicians came from different political parties for prayers and advice before the election.

He explained that he advised some who heeded while those who refused to listen are still going about after seeing the results of the polls.

“I advised them, some, they don’t take. Those who chose to take, they see results; those who said no are still going about it. If you still come again, I will still tell you, nothing will change,” the renowned cleric added.

Although Mr Oyedepo did not make any direct reference to the audio leak between him and Mr Obi, many Nigerians have continued to attribute his comment to the conversation which had been generating discourse on social media.

Earlier on Sunday, a spokesperson for Mr Obi, Valentine Obienyem, alleged the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) of releasing the audio file in an attempt to nail his boss as the State Security Service continues to sniff for those believed to be planning to install an interim government in the country.
