The Borno government has signed a N7.9 billion contract for the construction of a third flyover at the West End Roundabout in the Maiduguri metropolis.

The project has been awarded to a Chinese construction giant, Eighteen Engineering Company (EEC).

Mustapha Gubio, the commissioner for works, said this at the signing of the contract agreement on Monday in Maiduguri.

He said the project would address traffic congestion and ease movement in the Maiduguri metropolis, adding that it was the third flyover constructed by Gov. Babagana Zulum’s administration.

Mr Gubio said the EEC company won the contract in view of its track record in compliance with the due process.

The commissioner charged the contractors to ensure quality work and adhere strictly to the specifications to facilitate its completion within the stipulated 12 months period.

Mr Gubio said the state government had paid a 40 per cent mobilisation fee to the contractor, adding that an additional 10 per cent would soon be paid to the company.

He charged the contractor to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring good quality job.

According to him, the government is executing roads, drains and other viable infrastructure projects as part of its 25-year developmental plan of the state.

Also, Gao Kun, the representative of the company, pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them and execute the project according to the specifications.
