Nigerian singer and songwriter Brymo has tendered an apology to the Igbos over an offensive tweet he made against the ethnic group.

“I did not insult the tribe, I am sorry to anyone who it sounded as such to,” Brymo apologised during an Instagram live, adding that he was “trying to weigh into a very important matter.”

In a series of tweets, the ‘Ara’ crooner unveiled his displeasure towards the Igbos, tweeting: “Fuck the Ndi Igbos (Igbo people), to hell with it”.

The tweet triggered backlash from Nigerians on social media, leading to over 28,000 people to sign a petition to disqualify the singer from the All Africa Music Award (AAMA).

Brymo, who recently declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was nominated in the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ category.
