CAF interclub season to kick off September 9

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that its 2022/23 interclub competition will kick off on September 9.

“The 2022/23 season will kick off on Friday, 09 September 2022 with the preliminary rounds of both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup,” CAF said in a statement on its website..

The continent’s football governing body said in the TotalEnergies Champions League, 58 clubs would slug it out to try and dethrone African champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.

In the Confederation Cup, 50 clubs will vie for top honours to unseat current champions, RS Berkane also of Morocco.

The first leg of matches of the first preliminary round will be played from September 9 to 11, with the return matches scheduled to be played a week later.

The newly crowned Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Rivers United and Plateau United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions league.

The surprise package, Remo Stars FC of Ikenne and Kwara United will lead the battle in the Confederation Cup.
