Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o apologises to coach Marc Brys, reaffirms Belgian’s appointment
The president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, has apologised to coach Marc Brys and reinstated him as the boss of the country’s national team (the Indomitable Lions) following a row between the federation and the sports ministry.
Brys had in April been appointed as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions by the sports ministry without the knowledge of Eto’o, who was surprised by the move and called him into a meeting on Tuesday to meet for the first time.
However, the event ended in chaos, with Eto’o ordering the sports ministry officials who had accompanied Brys to the meeting to say they had not been invited.
The meeting ended with Brys and Eto’o caught on video engaging in heated arguments. Later in the day, Eto’o appointed Martin Ndtoungou as interim head coach.
Meanwhile, Eto’o has now decided to apologise to Brys for his actions and stated the Belgian would remain as the head coach of the national team as Cameroon take on Cape Verde and Angola in the continuation of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“I apologise because, during our first unfortunate meeting, there was a lot of emotion,” former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker Eto’o said during a press conference on Thursday. “The Cameroonian people are more important than us, and it is for them that we must work,” he added.
