China handled 16.7 million reports of illegal online content in March: Data

It said the central and regional internet regulators had dealt with some 1.18 million of such reports.

More than 16.7 million reports of illegal or harmful online content were handled in March in China, up 32.7 per cent from the same period in 2022.

Statistics from the Cyberspace Administration of China showed that the figure was 14.4 per cent higher than the month before.

According to the administration, approximately 15.52 million reports were handled by major Chinese websites.

It said the central and regional internet regulators had dealt with some 1.18 million of such reports.

The illegal or harmful online content reported were mostly information related to pornography, gambling, infringement and rumours.
