The Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old security guard, Mohammed Awalu, to three years in prison for stealing his employer’s property worth N2.19 million.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The magistrate, O. O. Fagbohun, sentenced him to hard labour.

She held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.

The convict worked for the complainant, Omolola Idowu, who resides at 56 Captain Davie Road, Ayobo, Lagos.

The prosecutor, Felicia Okwori, had told the court that the convict committed the offences between June 2023 and November 2023 at the complainant’s residence.

Ms Okwori said the convict and others at large stole the complainant’s property when she travelled.

The prosecutor listed the stolen property as two gates valued at N540,000, window protectors worth N870,000, a generator worth N300,000, a ceiling fan valued at N25,000, a gas cooker worth N375,000, and a pumping machine worth N85,000, all totalling N2.19 million.
