An Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun State, on Tuesday sentenced two women, Omowunmi Adeyemi, 42, and Toyin Olumide, 30, to nine months in prison each for assaulting a woman, Monsurat Ogboye.

The Magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, found the duo guilty of all the three counts of conspiracy, assault and wilful damage brought against them by the police.

Mrs Fadairo held that the prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Adaraloye, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

She, however, gave each of the convicts an option to pay N60,000 fine.

She added that the convicts should restitute N30,000 to the complainant, Ogboye.

The prosecutor had told the court that the convicts committed the offences on January 15 about 8.00 a m., at Ajana axis of Ota.

Mr Adaraloye said that the convicts conspired to assault Mrs Ogboye, inflicting a permanent injury to her neck.

He told the court that the defendants also unlawfully damaged Mrs Ogboye’s clothes and two buckets, all worth N30,000.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 335, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendants had pleaded not guilty on arraignment.
