The Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 44-year-old man, Abass Treasure, for fraudulently obtaining N9.6 million under false pretence to facilitate a Canadian visa.

Police prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that Mr Treasure allegedly committed the offence between December 16, 2022, and January 25, 2023, at Ikorodu.

Mr Famuyiwa said Mr Treasure fraudulently obtained N2.5 million from one Fatai Olatunde, N6.7 million from Emmanuel Ogunlewe, and N400,000 from Oluwashina Sanusi, claiming he would procure Canadian visas for them.

Mr Treasure pleaded guilty to the charge.

Presiding Magistrate A. O. Ogbe ordered his remand in a correctional facility and granted him N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Ogbe said the addresses of the sureties must be verified. He adjourned the case until July 6 for further hearing.
