Cricket: Nigeria moves up at ICC Women’s T20 rankings

Zimbabwe, South Africa and Nigeria emerged first, second and third place at the Games.

• March 21, 2024

Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Cricket team have moved one place up in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 rankings.

The rankings released on the ICC website show that Nigeria leapt from 26th to 27th, which is the position they were heading for the 13th African Games in Ghana.

Nigeria was the least-ranked team among seven other countries, including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, and Tanzania, featured in the women’s event.

The Female Yellow Greens’ historic victory against Namibia for the first time in five meetings and the three-wicket victory over Uganda in the bronze medal match played a huge role in their new rankings.

With cricket making its debut at the Games and Nigeria finishing in third place at the event, the team will look ahead to participating in the KwibukaT20 Women’s Tournament in Rwanda in May.

Zimbabwe, South Africa and Nigeria emerged first, second and third place at the Games.
