Controversial street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, otherwise called Portable, has been released by the Lagos State Police Command after meeting bail conditions on Wednesday.

The musician was arrested on Tuesday for owing a car dealer at Temmy Autos, Ogunsanwo Temitope, N14 million after purchasing a N27 million G-Wagon.

According to Mr Ogunsanwo, Portable only paid N13 million and had refused to defray N14 million balance.

A petition by the auto dealer led to the arrest of the musician who made efforts to flee.

The musician’s release was confirmed by the police spokesperson in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin.

Controversy dogs the footsteps of the artiste like a bad coin. He had variously been involved in controversies since gaining prominence.

In March, 2023, the musician was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over damaging remarks on cops in two viral video videos.

The musician was also arrested in April, 2023, by policemen in Ogun State on a five-count charge bordering on alleged assault and theft at the Ifo Magistrates’ Court, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State

Meanwhile, the agreement the singer signed with the car dealer had surfaced online. It indicated that the singer reneged on terms of the agreement.

The agreement read: “I, Badmus Okikiola Habeeb (aka Portable) of the above name and address, at this moment write this letter of undertaking that I purchase a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 Black colour with chassis number: 4JDASHB6GA656575 at the rate of twenty-seven million Naira only (N27,000,000.00), which I promise to pay first payment tomorrow on the 10th of January, 2024, twelve million naira only (N12,000,000.00), second payment will be on the 24th January, 2024, five million naira (N5,000,000.00).

“The third payment will be on the 10th of February, 2024, five million naira (N5,000,000.00); the balance must be paid on the 24th of February, 2024, five million Naira only (N5,000,000.00). Altogether, the money is twenty-seven Million nairas only (27,000,000.00), which Badmus Okikiola Habeeb (aka Portable) agrees the car is very okay by me.’’

As of the time this report was filed, it was unclear if the musician had defrayed the balance upon his release after meeting the bail conditions.
