President-elect Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, told members of the National Assembly not to expect his wife, Oluremi, back in the Senate.

Mr Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared the winner of the February 25 poll, said his wife would now be the “First Lady” in charge of the “other room.”

“To my lovely wife. Oluremi Tinubu. You, the senators, don’t expect her back. She’s going to be my housewife and First Lady. Enough of lending (sic)…The other room,” he said while addressing his party faithful and supporters.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential poll after scoring 8,794,726 votes to beat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Atiku Abubakar who scored 6,948,520.

Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, came third after polling 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Mr Tinubu, in his speech, also promised Nigerians that he would chart a new path in moving the country forward.

He also asked his main challengers in the just-concluded election to seek legal redress in court if they were unsatisfied with the poll’s outcome rather than resorting to violence or protesting the results.

At 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Mr Tinubu and Vice-President-elect Kashim Shettima will be presented with their certificates of return by INEC.
