The police command in Ebonyi has set up a complaint response unit (CRU) in the state as part of the policy of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesman for the command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, in Abakaliki on Friday.

Mr Ukandu explained that the CRU was already an existing unit in the Nigeria Police Force but devolved to state commands to strengthen accountability, transparency, and prompt response to public complaints against officers.

According to him, the unit will act as a central point for receiving and resolving complaints from members of the public against police personnel in the command.

“It is part of our efforts to offer a more convenient and effective process for handling complaints against police officers, thereby ensuring that the rights and dignity of all individuals are respected,” the spokesman added.

Mr Ukandu noted that the command, under the leadership of CP Augustina Ogbodo, is committed to professionalism and ethical conduct.

“The setting up of the CRU reasserts our commitment to building trust and confidence within the community we serve.

“We urge members of the public to approach the CRU to report any issues or grievances they may have against police officers serving in the command. By working together, we can ensure a better and more accountable police force for all.

“For further inquiries or to file a complaint, please contact the Ebonyi state police command CRU desk officer on 08067577537 or the PPRO on 08032716251,” Mr Ukandu added.
