Mongolia’s population growth has been slowing since 2020, the chairman of the National Statistics Office, Batmunkh Batdavaa, said on Tuesday.

He said the country’s population had grown by an average annual rate of 2.2 per cent from 2010 to 2020.

Mr Batdavaa said the average annual growth rate had decreased to 1.5 per cent since 2020.

He noted that the slowdown was mainly related to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic difficulties.

The Asian country’s population stood at 3.45 million at the end of 2022.

Mongolia, with a land area of 1,564,116 square km, is the most sparsely populated country in the world.
