The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on public officeholders to uphold probity, transparency, and accountability in managing public finances.

Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, gave the charge when a delegation from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by its MD/CEO, Samuel Ogbuku, visited him in Abuja.

Mr Olukoyede warned that a day of reckoning would come for those who fail to adhere to these principles, stressing that only leaders with high morals should hold positions of trust.

He emphasised the need for transparency and accountability in the conduct of affairs, noting that Nigerians were inherently good people but were hindered by a system that allowed fraud to thrive.

Mr Olukoyede assured that the EFCC would continue to play its role with unwavering determination and courage, committed to using the anti-corruption fight to build the economy and ensure good governance.

He also promised the EFCC’s readiness to assist and enhance working relationships with the NDDC to achieve its mandate.

Mr Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to fighting corruption and building a strong economy through good governance.

On his part, Mr Ogbuku appreciated the EFCC’s support in recovering funds for the NDDC, which had helped the region and the commission.

He announced plans to invite the EFCC to commission projects funded by the recovered money, demonstrating the positive impact of the EFCC’s efforts.

Mr Ogbuku highlighted the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” policy, aimed at changing the negative perception of the commission by focussing on transparency and learning from past mistakes.

He sought enhanced collaboration between the NDDC and EFCC, particularly in technical support and training for finance staff in financial management.
