The newly-elected Chairperson of Oye Local Government Area in Ekit State, Clara Bamisile, on Thursday warned residents to desist from burning bushes in the residential areas of the town.

Mrs Bamisile gave the warning during an interview in Oye-Ekiti.

She said incessant burning of bushes had serious implications which could destroy valuable property if not properly monitored and quenched before it became uncontrollable.

Mrs Bamisile said, “I want to warn residents who are fond of burning bushes to clear the farms, plot of lands to desist to avoid causing havoc to other people’s property. Bushes can be cleared with cutlass through the help of gardeners and labourers but burning bushes during this dry season is dangerous.

“We are in a dry season where the grass, trees are so sensitive to fire; any outbreak of fire without proper measures to quench it can destroy both private government property.’’

The chairperson appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and parents to educate their children on the dangers of incessant bush burning.

Mrs Bamisile also promised to give priority to the welfare of residents of the communities under the council and staff of the local government area.
