Brigadier General Muktar Adamu, the Commander 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, has asked Nigerians to encourage the military in its core mandate of protecting the nation’s territory and bringing her adversaries to their knees.

Mr Adamu appealed while playing host to the executive members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), in Ondo state, at his office in Akure, at the weekend.

He said disparaging men of the armed forces, who are outside day and night to ensure maximum protection for the country, usually dampens the morale of the officers.

According to him, encouraging the military is what the officers needed to work effectively on the job.

“Negative reportage of the military activities usually brings down the morale of officers,” Mr Adamu added.

The commander described the media as the bridge between the people and government while urging practitioners to be fair, objective and factual in the coverage of military activities.

“I want to appeal to the media to ensure they give accurate information without endangering national security,” Mr Adamu said.

While revealing that the Army was working with other security agencies in ensuring they nip crime and other social vices in the bud, the Brigadier General said the military in the state won’t relent on its mandate of ensuring protection for the people.

He later described women journalists in the state as active in ensuring that the voice of women are heard, and promised Army’s unflinching support for the association.

Tola Gbadamosi, the Ondo NAWOJ chairperson, solicited the support and cooperation of the brigade to ensure cordial working relationships.

Mrs Gbadamosi, who congratulated the commander for a job well done in the command, said the association will always be ready to partner with the military, especially with their women officers.
