Women of the Ezema Mgbagbu-owa community in Ezeagu LGA in Enugu have vowed to complete the community’s town hall project abandoned 40 years ago.

On Wednesday, the women in the process launched a N20 million fund to complete the hall project in the community.

The hall, when completed, is expected to serve as a human capital development centre for the women and youths of the area, according to the leader of Ezema Women, Gloria Elobuike.

Ms Elobuike said the hall project had been on for over 40 years due to a lack of funds.

She said the hall, which the women initiated, was the first ever in the whole of Mgbagbu-owa, adding that most of the women who initiated the project had died while those alive yearned to see the hall completed in their lifetime.

Worried by the development, she said the women executive members were working hard to ensure that the hall was completed in the shortest period and put to use for the overall development of the people.

“It is against this odds that we invited distinguished sons, daughters and friends of the community to launch the N20 million for the completion of the hall.

“Today marks another milestone in the annals of our history towards the development of our community and with the determination of our people. It will bring an end to the over 40-year journey of Ezema women towards the possession of a functional town hall.

“The hall, when completed, will serve as a pride of place for our people in terms of vocational, social and cultural integration of our population. It will open a new chapter in our community development and place us on equal footing with our neighbouring communities that are already enjoying the benefits of similar facilities,” Ms Elobuike said.

The women leader assured of the timely completion of the hall and its immediate use to put smiles on their faces and improve the economic and social narratives of the Ezema people.

She said the hall would be a game changer that would bring innovation to their way of life, stressing their administration came into office when it had been roofed and fenced.

Also speaking, the event coordinator, Luke Ohaeche, said the fundraising became necessary as the women were exhausted financially and needed assistance from their husbands, sons, daughters and friends.

“Though we are launching N20 million, looking at the cost of things, the amount cannot really do what we wanted, hence hoping that our guests will donate more for us,” she said.
