Governor-elect Peter Mbah has inaugurated a 60-man committee to ensure a smooth transition ahead of his swearing-in on May 29.

The transition committee will help articulate and fine-tune Mr Mbah’s administration’s “implementable and impactful development plans.”

It will also streamline the state development plan in line with his ‘Social Charter’ with the Enugu people.

Inaugurating the committee on Thursday in Enugu, the governor-elect said his blueprint for transforming the state was achievable.

“It is our hope that the vision we have for Enugu will take the enviable position it occupies in terms of development,” Mr Mbah explained. “I know doubters and critics may doubt our plans to transform Enugu, but we believe that they can be achieved because they are achievable.”

The governor-elect said the plans to provide jobs for Enugu’s teeming youths and equip them with digital skills could be achieved.

“We are resolved to see that our plans are realised as we are fully committed to the ease of doing business to make Enugu enviable,” he said.

The committee chairman, Ikechi Chioke, said with Mr Mba hitting the ground running, the Enugu people would start feeling the impact of a new government within the first 180 days in office.

Mr Chijioke added that, with one month left, the committee would map out strategies to help the governor-elect deliver on his campaign promises. He also pledged that the committee would not disappoint Mr Mbah and the Enugu people.

“The honour you will do for us, the transition committee, is that in 100 days, you will have done something tangible to show that, indeed, tomorrow is here,” he added.

Pat Utomi, who spoke through Zoom, urged Mr Mbah to temper ambition with reality and imagination and emulate leaders such as Nnamdi Azikiwe and Michael Okpara in developing Enugu.

He urged the governor-elect to be creative and disciplined in governance by abiding by the rule of law, stressing that “your passion and commitment can make things happen.”
