Casemiro saw red as Manchester United secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford to move third on the Premier League table.

The Red Devils played the final twenty five minutes of the encounter with a man down and saw a series of tactical changes from Erik ten Hag, including the withdrawal of Alejandro Garancho, who was introduced in the second half.

Ten Hag also resorted to using four centre-back for the remainder of the game with the introduction of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire to hold on for United’s victory as the team returned to winning ways.

United wasted no time in stringing to action when they grabbed the lead through Bruno Fernandes in the 7th minute of the match.

The Portuguese midfielder slotted a penalty awarded for the Red Devils following VAR review after Will Hughes handed Rashford’s cross inside the Palace’s 18-yard area.

Afterwards, the Red Devils were close to doubling the lead from Wout Weghorst’s brilliant header and Antony’s rare right-footed curler but the efforts were saved by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vincente Guaita, who pulled off incredible saves.

Palace’s only real attempt in the first half came in the 43rd minute when David De gea was called to action by Jeffrey Schlupp, who fired a low range shot from outside the box. De gea stretched and parried the ball to safety as United headed into halftime having the advantage.

Marcus Rashford tested the goalpost on resumption of the second half kick action. But the effort of the striker slightly went over the. He finally found the back of the net in the 63rd minute to double United’s lead thanks to an assist by Luke Shaw.

However, in the 70th minute of the game, Manchester United were reduced to 10-man when Casemiro was shown a red card for putting his hands around the throat of Hughes during a massive brawl that erupted between players from both sides.

Then six minutes later, United soon felt the effect of being down by a player when Schlupp pulled on back for Crystal Palace through a tap-in from a corner kick. But that was all for the visitors as the Red Devils reverted to a defensive tactic to see off the dramatic victory.

The victory was United’s thirteenth straight home win across all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, at the Molineux Stadium, Liverpool’s Premier League winless run continued on Saturday evening following a shocking 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves grabbed the lead barely five minutes into the game through Jöel Matip’s own goal that struck the post before making its way into the net. Craig Dawson doubled the lead for the hosts through a wonderful volley.

Rúben Neves sealed off Wolves’ victory in the final minutes of the match through an assist from Adama Traore to condemn Liverpool to their fourth loss in their last five league matches.

Liverpool remain 10th in the league standings as pressure continues to build up around Jürgen Klopp’s future as the manager of the club.

Shortly after the defeat, Klopp said: “There’s no excuse. I can’t explain it — the first 15 minutes were horrible. It needs to be changed, I’m sorry. We just need to change it now, there’s no explanation. Change immediately in the next game.”
