The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has begun capacity-building training for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operators on skills needed to improve their businesses in Bauchi.

Speaking during the commencement of the training on Thursday, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Evelyn Ngige, said the training was aimed at enhancing the participants’ literacy on how to access loans and credit facilities in Nigeria.

“It is against this backdrop that the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment initiated this capacity-building programme to apprise the NMSMEs of the realities of financial services in the country. The training is also aimed at providing guidance that will enable the participants access best funding options for the growth of their businesses.

“It may interest you to note that key policy programmes for NMSMEs development are being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment as part of its statutory responsibility to better the lives of the citizenry,” she said.

Ms Ngige explained that President Bola Tinubu had recently unveiled a plan to disburse N75 billion in credit facilities to support Micro, Small and Medium business owners.

She said similar training was being conducted in other parts of the country.

Bauchi’s commissioner for industry, trade and investment, Mahmud Ma’aji, described the move as apt and urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity provided to them.

The commissioner added that the training would complement the state government’s efforts to provide better opportunities to improve commercial activities.
