The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to reduce speed and change all expired tyres to stem crashes during the rainy season.

Anthony Uga, FRSC sector commander in Ogun, gave the advice while speaking with journalists on Sunday in Ota, Ogun.

Mr Uga said the advice became necessary for motorists as the rainy season had some dangerous approaches that could lead to loss of lives during driving if care was not taken.

According to him, the FRSC has started a general campaign against speeding to prevent avoidable crashes during the season.

The sector commander noted that everybody understood that times were hard but that “only the living use vehicles.”

“All motorists should avoid speeding as a major approach towards driving during the rainy season because speeding is killing.

“In addition, they should change any bad or expired tyres as this might fail them while on the road during the rainy season.

“Anybody entering the rainy season and the tyres are not good, you don’t have wipers and lighting systems, and you don’t even care about speeding, that means that such motorists are heading toward doom,” he said.

He urged the motorists to ensure that their wipers, lightning systems and general mechanical efficiency of their vehicles are functioning as the rainy season approaches.

Mr Uga implored motorists also to install speed limit devices as enforcement had started.

He said it was no longer limited to trucks, but commercial buses and all other vehicles should also install the devices in their vehicles.
