The General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, has charged 95 graduating participants in operational planning cadre to imbibe teamwork, discipline and professionalism.

“These are the hallmarks of the Nigerian Army and let these guide your actions on the field,” Mr Dada said on Friday at the end of the 82 Division 2024 Operational Planning workshop held at the division’s headquarters in Enugu.

The GOC said good decision-making, planning, organisation and execution of military operations are skills that every officer must possess.

He said, “The workshop was organised to ensure that the skill-set of participants is sharpened and refined to ensure that our operations are always successful. As stated during my opening remarks a few days ago, this cadre is in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff. I, therefore, want to profoundly thank the COAS for his visionary leadership in providing direction for this valuable and innovative training which has enhanced our capabilities in conducting our current and future operations.

“Judging from the enthusiasm generated from presentation on selected topics, I am certain that the objectives of this cadre have been largely realised. I am aware that during this cadre you were extensively taken on the intelligence preparation of the environment and the military decision-making process which offers proven analytical process that will assist you in developing, integrating and synchronising your plans. The knowledge and skills you have acquired will undoubtedly prove crucial to your success in conventional and asymmetric warfare situations.’’

The GOC also noted that the practical scenarios that had been simulated had certainly enhanced their understanding of the complexities in crises situations and how to manage them.

He, however, charged the graduating participants, who are officers from military and para-military formations to put into practice all they had learnt in their respective formations, units and organisations.

He said, “Remember to continuously brief your men as that is the only way that you can be on the same pedestal with them. Whatever you have learnt here must be shared with your men on the ground as you will need them to operate with you to achieve meaningful success.’’

He also thanked the resource persons who have came from the Army War College and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, for making the training a success.

“Let me reiterate here that training is a never-ending process; thus, I urge you to continue to build on the knowledge you have acquired during this cadre,” he added.

The participants at the programme which started on February 5 and ended February 9 were drawn from the Nigerian Air Force; Nigeria Police, NSCDC, DSS, FRSC, Nigerian Customs, Nigerian Immigration Service, NDLEA and the Federal Fire Service among others.
