Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe has urged residents of the state to support the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

Mr Yahaya, who stated this during his Sallah message in Gombe on Friday, said the gains of the upcoming census were numerous for the state and country.

Represented by the Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, Mr Yahaya said the exercise would provide a good data to help develop the country and improve on the wellbeing of citizens.

According to him, the committee set up to create awareness ahead of the exercise is already engaging relevant stakeholders and taking the campaigns to various communities in the state.

He noted that the success of the census was a collective responsibility of everyone, and urged the people to play their roles before and during the exercise.

He advised all residents of the state to ensure they were counted so that Gombe could maximally benefit from the gains of census.

“I call on all stakeholders, traditional and community leaders to educate their subjects on the importance of census and the need for them to come out and be counted,” he said.

The governor also called on Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit of the Ramadan by living peacefully with everyone and continue to support the government toward development of the state.

Earlier, after observing the two Raka’at at the Eid prayer ground, the Deputy Chief Imam, Aliyu Hammari, prayed for peaceful co-existence in the state and country at large.

Hammari also admonished citizens to pray for the incoming administration of Sen. Bola Tinubu and all elected government officials to enable them deliver on their campaign promises for the good of Nigerians.
