Ebonyi First Lady Mary Nwifuru on Monday welcomed the New Year baby born at the National Obstetrics Fistula Centre (NOFIC) in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The baby girl, who weighed about 2.8 kilogrammes, was born on the nick of the New Year.

In her remarks, Mrs Nwifuru expressed satisfaction over the safe delivery and prayed that the baby would be a blessing to her family and the state.

She commended the hospital management for their services in ensuring that pregnant mothers were safely delivered of their babies

“She is the first baby of the year and has brought joy to her family and the entire state,” Mrs Nwifuru said.

Johnson Obuna, the hospital’s medical director, appreciated Mrs Nwifuru’s visit and the gifts offered to the newborn.

The baby’s parents, Mr and Mrs Elom, thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture and promised to take proper care of the child.

Mrs Nwifuru donated cash, food, and other items to the baby.
